Korameenu a new small budget movie review
Another small movie titled Korameenu released today. Starring Anand Ravi, Shatru and Harish Uthaman. Let's see how it is.
Story:
IPS officer Meesala Raju aka Sitarama Raju (Shatru), a nightmare for criminals, is transferred from Vijayawada to Vizag. As soon as he lands in Vizag, several suspects shave Meesala Raju's moustache. Although Meesala Raju is annoyed by this, he is introduced to the drug trade in Jalaripeta by Karuna (Harish Uthaman), a ruthless person who controls everything there. Meesala Raju also learns that Karuna has developed some differences with her driver Koti (Anand Ravi). Who is this Koti? What are its differences with Karuna? What is Meenakshi's (Kishori Dhatrak) role in this plot? Did Meesala arrest Raju Karuna?
Extra Points:
The plot of the film is very different from the usual films and the character building in the beginning is quite impressive. The whole movie mainly revolves around three characters, a strong cop, a ruthless person and his driver. These characters are strongly written and the way each of these roles are tied is good.
Harish Uthaman and Shatru are talented actors and they show all their experience in the film. Although Harish Utham's role is strong in the first half, Shatrun's role gets stronger as the film progresses. He does exactly what is expected of his role and doesn't overdo it. There are some subtle enhancements to it that work well.
The surprise package in the film is Kishori Dhatrak who does a fantastic job as Meenakshi. He doesn't play an ordinary hero and his character gets a lot of attention in the film. The fun parts are affordable. The last twenty minutes of the film are presented beautifully and the twists that come here are brilliantly thought out.
Negative points:
Although the film has a different plot and a unique structure, the proceedings slow down the impact a bit. Especially a few serials were a little too long, so it bored the audience. The interesting moments do not last long and the script could have been sharper to heighten the drama.
A few characters like the single woman searching for her husband and her drunken father could have been showcased better as their scenes lack consistency. There is no emotional outburst that could have made more of a difference in an important scene.
There are a few good elements touched upon in the film, but their placement is not great as they are overshadowed in between the important moments. Some scenes don't have the right flow so they look out of place. The plot initially drops in the second half and things only get interesting towards the end.
Technical Aspects:
Anantha Narayanan AG's music is decent. Special attention is given to the cinematography by Kartheek Koppera as he captures the beautiful coastal locations in a very natural way. The editing team could have shortened the length of the film a bit. Production values are good.
Anand Ravi himself gave the story, screenplay and dialogues of the film. He did a great job of writing a different plot, but the narrative needed a few tweaks. Director Sripathy Karri does a decent job in the film. But there are some parts that offend them. If they were treated well, the film would have gone to the next level. Nevertheless, if the director could have worked on a few mistakes, he could have gone a long way.
Verdict:
Overall, Korameenu is a different film and has its moments all over the place. All the lead actors have done very well and the twists are good. But the problem is the slow execution and several parts could have been handled better. Ignoring the slow narration, the film ends up with a passable viewing this weekend.
