Stargirl Season 1
Episode No 4 Review And Recap
The result is something that works well enough, keeping the tone of the piece firmly on the teenage drama vibes, while introducing the threat of coming in with teasing stares during those 45 minutes.
We begin Stargirl episode 4 three months earlier, as a small montage sees Yolanda preparing herself for her job as class president. On the way home, Henry agrees to send a sexy picture to his girlfriend. Only he shares it with the whole school and the humiliation of it is too much for him to bear. What's worse is that after this incident, her family shuns her and treats her daughter badly.
Back in the present, Courtney looks over the various items she collected from the last episode of Justice Society and debates the best way to proceed. Pat invites her over for breakfast, but things go sour between them after Joey's death. Speaking of the cold, Jordan goes down to the basement at the Injustice Society headquarters and talks to the doctor there, telling him he's working on Project: New America and asking him to start building a machine to see the outcome. To do this, Jordan agrees to hand over the Wizard's body to help with his experiments.
Back at school, Courtney confronts Yolanda and confesses the truth about Henry blowing up her car. Realizing she can help fight, Courtney learns more about Yolanda's betrayal before revealing to her the secrets she's been keeping all along. Despite some initial reservations, Yolanda trusts Courtney and puts on her wildcat costume.
When he wears a helmet, it automatically changes to fit his body. As another montage begins, we learn more about Wildcat's abilities and see them play out straight as Courtney marvels at her abilities.
They decide to put their skills to the test, and if Brainwave's friends are nearby, they might be in the hospital. Determined to find out if it has weight, Yolanda uses her abilities to climb up the side of the building into Brainwave's room while Stargirl goes the other way.
Meanwhile, Denise packs up and decides to leave town, telling Pat to be careful because there's more going on than he knows. An ominous warning to be sure, but as he runs away, he leaves Pat with his thoughts.
Back at the hospital, Yolanda and Courtney work together and watch as Principal Bowen arrives before Brainwave and starts playing the violin. It is bad to suspect something, they start to investigate what it means. As they climb onto the roof together, Beth happens to see them and hears Yolanda's name being called.
Yolanda rejects the call to action and instead goes home and confronts her family about what happened in the past. When they refuse to listen and send her back to her room, Yolanda has had enough and decides to follow her destiny and embraces the suit.
Pat returns to the junkyard to pick up the supplies, but once there he encounters a black cat; The same black cat that belonged to Denise. As he continues to search, he finds her car battered and empty.
What happened to Denise? Did Jordan come to her first or someone else? The mystery is certainly interesting, and with that, the episode does a great job of capturing the innocence and excitement these two girls feel as they begin to branch out and discover their powers. The authenticity with the Wikipedia check is a great touch, and the conflict between the new Justice Society and the Injustice Society looks pretty intense.
I would imagine that Beth will be recruited down the line, and maybe the trio will be joined by Rick, the other guy from the "loser" desk at school. For now, the episode does well to introduce Wildcat and continue to establish the threat lurking in the shadows. Stargirl is set for a pretty dramatic second half after another decent drama, but is Stargirl really Starman's daughter?
