Stargirl Season 1

Episode No 10 Review And Recap

As we near the end of this season, Stargirl is stepping it up to deliver her best episode yet. Episode 10 is about the establishment of a new world order as all eyes turn to Henry Jr. and his newfound powers. It builds beautifully to a dramatic and shattering climax that is sure to leave fans desperate for next week's sequel.

The episode begins two years ago in Blue Valley when Pat and Barbara meet for the first time for the banana distribution. "I'm afraid we only have one banana left..." The waiter tells them, prompting the two to sit down and eat together. However, as the camera pans up, we see that there are actually two bananas!

We flash back to the present day as Barbara questions Pat and Courtney in disbelief about what happened. As Courtney is forced upstairs, Pat tries to explain herself. Unfortunately, he was caught off guard when he asked if Courtney had been in a car accident. After hearing enough, he refuses to listen anymore and tells her to leave the house.

Back at the hospital, Henry wakes up but has lost his memories of the past 10 years. This includes the loss of his wife Merry. Desperate for answers, Henry Jr. returns home and watches the tapes. In it, he looks back on Day 3233, when we learn the truth about Merry. Turns out he's Starman's brother and her killer? None other than Icicle.

Back at the hospital, Jordan arrives to update Henry on his project: New America. In the middle of the conversation, the space crew breaks through the wall and attacks Jordan. Although he scoffs at the notion and simply freezes the crew. Henry Jr. happens to be watching outside the room and hides from the couple as they leave.

Pat and Barbara are greeted at work by Jordan, who speaks Norwegian, and his parents. Barbara uses her resourcefulness and records their conversation. When they translate what they say, they hear about Jordan's car and wonder what its origin means.

Not knowing where else to turn, Henry Jr. meets Courtney and shares his thoughts with her. Realizing they are family, the pair team up to stop Jordan and Henry before it's too late. The duo rounds up the rest of the group before confronting them. Unfortunately, Rick and Henry Jr. fight, resulting in Rick landing hard on his back.

In the end, they agree to team up and descend into the Dragon King's basement to search for answers. The group breaks up, Rick and Beth take off together, only to find none other than Solomon Grundy, trapped behind a cage.

Courtney and the others enter the Dragon King's main chamber and surround themselves. Thankfully, all three use their powers to fend off the robbers. It's not enough to stop the Dragon King, who finally goes toe-to-toe with Courtney. When they get the staff back, they manage to stop Dr. Ito, thanks in part to Yolanda.

Rushing to safety, Henry Jr. sacrifices himself to save the others and goes toe-to-toe with his Father who preceded them. Confessing the truth to his son, Henry Senior cannot be saved. He was the one who killed Merry and buried his son under the rubble. As the JSA watch in stunned silence, one is left to wonder if Henry Jr. is really dead.

  Review Writing

What a dramatic ending to this week's episode! Stargirl really started to come into her own in these last few episodes, and it's easily her strongest of the season. The final act of this 13-episode ensemble should be incredibly exciting as the battle reaches a fever pitch and we're left with a lot of questions about it.

Seeing the group fight together in the Dragon King's lair is definitely one of the highlights of the season, and it's great to see them all working together for the greater good. Considering how many characters there are to juggle here, so far Stargirl has done a decent job of balancing them all and giving everyone something to do.

The situation with Rick and Solomon Grundy is far from over, though it remains to be seen if Courtney can handle the combined threat of Jordan and Henry. With Project: A New America on the horizon, Stargirl bows this week with a spectacular episode.
