Stargirl DC Universe New Show Season 1 Episode No 13 Recap And Review
Stargirl Season 1
Episode No 13 Review And Recap
The episode boasts beautiful choreography from start to finish, supported by a surprising and fitting ending to some of the characters.
Before we get there, Stargirl's Season 1 finale kicks off in a big way. The school is rocked when the football field opens up to reveal a giant satellite dish. Shockwaves vibrate as all the adults fall under ISA's spell.
Pat also continues to feel the effects until Courtney manages to catch up to her. He calls him his Father and he stops the robot in its tracks. Pat grits her teeth and tries to fight the broadcast.
Meanwhile, the Gambler antagonizes Beth until he can team up with Chuck and gain the upper hand. He hits the Gambler where it hurts - in the money. This proves to be the distraction the blockers need to trigger and free both Justin and Pat.
The whole team gathers together at the Dragon King's lair and fights. It's a neat action sequence that smoothly moves the camera between different characters fighting one-on-one. Justin and the Dragon King are separated until Cindy, of all people, stabs her Father in the back.
With the JSA gaining the upper hand, Solomon Grundy turns the tables in favor of the ISA. While everyone else is fighting their battles, Jordan sneaks off to find Beth and her glasses. Meanwhile, Yolanda manages to find little Henry safe and sound. Only, it's actually an illusion and Henry Senior in disguise. Yolanda realizes this and manages to kill Brainwave.
Realizing that his time is up, Gambler deletes everything that could incriminate him and runs away. Meanwhile, Rick and Grundy go toe-to-toe until Rick gets the upper hand and knocks Grundy to the ground.
With the apparent fatal blow, interestingly, Rick doesn't go down the same path as Yolanda. Instead, Grundy's pleas make him think twice and he lets the mutant go.
Courtney manages to get past Cindy and destroy the satellite with Yolanda. Just like them, Jordan arrives and destroys Beth's glasses and apparently Chuck.
Losing the plan, Jordan grabs Barbara and takes her to the roof. She desperately tries to see his vision, but he turns her away, calling the man crazy.
Thankfully, Pat and Courtney came to the rescue. As the battle crescendos, Jordan turns to ice and prepares to kill Courtney. Suddenly, a car crashes into Jordan, seemingly eliminating this enemy once and for all. Would you believe it's Mike!
With the threat averted for now, Justin leaves Blue Valley. Before doing so, he tells the others that Starman would be proud of them. He's on the move, looking for old soldiers and his trusty horse.
Although the battle is over, the war is far from over. A man in a strange hat sits in the shadows of the ISA headquarters, watching the news. As he does so, the smoke curls like a bud and covers the picture on the wall. Cindy meanwhile finds a strange diamond in the basement and smiles. "I found you… Eclipso."
Six weeks go by and it's Christmas time. Courtney gives Pat her gift, which is a mug with "World's Greatest Dad" written on it. The epilogue subverts this as all our characters live their current happily ever after.
Here we went to California with a man looking for Pat. That man? Sylvester Pemberton aka. Starman.
Episode Review
One of the best things about Stargirl is how every character is written. What used to be seen as a quirky and indifferent teen drama actually took its time to reveal its villains. Deserving motivation is given to the whole ISA team, especially Brainwave and Jordan.
You can understand what Jordan is trying to do, and this believability prevents him from falling into the atypical megalomaniac category. He may be crazy, but he also believes in his work.
The interesting juxtaposition with Team JSA is the real talking point here. Specifically, Rick releases Grundy and Yolanda kills Brainwave. Seeing Yolanda forced to smile at the end could be a foreshadowing of season 2. Can he turn to the dark side? Considering how much fun he had in Brainwave Death , it might not be so far-fetched to think so.
Overall, Stargirl was a really pleasant surprise. The move to The CW for Season 2 is a bit worrisome. Hopefully we get a consistent amount of action and special effects like here.
The balance between drama and action this season was perfect, and Stargirl is definitely one of the brighter stars in the superhero sky. Now that all eyes are on season 2, Stargirl is making an impressive debut season.
