Midnight Suns Marvel New Game Ending Explained, Did the Hulk escape the darkness?

Midnight Suns Plot Synopsis

The story behind it all begins with HYDRA scientist Doctor Faustus resurrecting Lilith in hopes of using her to help HYDRA conquer the world. With an enemy too powerful for our heroes, including Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and Captain Marvel, Wanda Maximoff stays behind to fight Lilith, while the others retreat to the Abbey, recruit the Midnight Suns, and resurrect the Hunter, a new hero that can be randomly customized. Become Lilith's child and slayer.

From here, the game really begins as you take control of the Hunter and team up with various heroes to conquer missions, gaining strength to capture Lilith and put an end to her evil ways. Along the way you'll encounter a variety of enemies, both supernatural and human, with some mini-bosses thrown in for good measure.

Did the Hulk escape the darkness?

After a battle from New York to the American South, including a failed plan with Ghost Rider and Johnny Blaze that ultimately ends in disaster, we come to the final third act of our story. The final pages of the Darkhold are in Lilith's hands thanks to the Fallen Hulk under her control.

Before Lilith can restore the Darkhold, our heroes manage to contain it, purge the darkness from the Hulk, and tip the balance of power in our heroes' favor. However, it is only a matter of time before Lilith strikes. And unfortunately, it happens more quickly.

How are our heroes going to stop Lilith?
Lilith's plan is to use the monstrous Xthon during a midnight solar eclipse to free this evil deity and cleanse the Earth. But if Hunter and the Midnight Suns have nothing to do with it.

The Huntsman and Captain America manage to stop Crossbones before he can bring a dagger that can help destroy the Darkhold, releasing the demons all over the world. Thanks to Nico's information, the Huntsman and Wolverine learn that this ancient blade is known as the God Slayer. It's actually made from Cththon's flesh, and while he destroys the book, our heroes think he must stop Cthon from resurrecting as well.

The Midnight Suns gather together and try to stop Lilith's ritual. When they reach Chthon's realm, a last-minute twist sees us learn that Lilith has really been their ally all along! Lilith reveals that she doesn't want to summon Chthon to be her servant and destroy the Earth, but instead uses the Darkhold to destroy this God for good. This explains why Lilith never attacked Abbey and the whole dream sequence with the Hunter, she tried to talk him into her cause.

Lilith removes the magical shackle around Hunter's neck to reveal his true power. Unfortunately, this leads to Hunter being captured by Chthon. God takes control of the Hunter by stabbing Lilith. After the other heroes free the Hunter from this dark energy, Lilith realizes that she must destroy the Darkhold in order to kill Chthon. So he uses the God Slayer. The plan works, but the book becomes unstable and spews out a lot of Magical energy.

  Lilith and Hunter killed?

In the final plot, Lilith uses her power to save the Midnight Suns, sending them to the Abbey and saving them. However, Hunter falls short of Lilith considering both are corrupted by the Darkhold. As the pair embrace, the Darkhold's magic envelops them.

The rest of Midnight Sun are back at the Abbey and they share a moment together reflecting on the events that took place as the sun rose. It's hinted that the couple is dead, but if you stick around after the credits, more will be revealed around that.

  Is there a post-credits sequence?

Yes! Stay tuned for Midnight Suns as it features two post-credit sequences. The former sees the group in the Abbey, where the Caretaker theorizes that Hunter and Lilith's bond may be enough for them to survive the Darkhold's explosion. They may still be there together, hinting at a possible continuation of the table.

The second post-credits sequence finds us in the realm of Chthon, where a mysterious armored figure walks into a pile of rubble. Lilith and the Huntress echo in the distance as the figure approaches in the Darkhold. It survived the explosion and appears to remain intact. The figure laughs evilly, touching a book with an armored hand while muttering "fans".

But who is this figure? Well, many Marvel fans will probably guess that it's Doctor Doom, potentially hinting at a sequel revolving around him and a possible appearance for the Fantastic Four as well!
