Butterfly Anupama Parameswaran New Movie Review
Another film called Butterfly opted for a direct digital release. Starring Anupama Parameswaran, Bhumika Chawla and Nihal Kodhati in lead roles, the film is currently streaming on Hotstar. Let's see how the movie is.
Story:
Prominent criminal lawyer Vyjayanthi is raising her children alone as she has problems with her husband. One day he leaves for Delhi on an important business and asks Geetha to look after the children. Suddenly, the children go missing, shocking Geetha. She takes the help of her lover Viswa (Nihal Kodhaty) in her search. Where did the children go? Did Geetha and Viswa succeed in finding the children?
Extra Points:
Anupama Parameswaran is the heart and soul of the film, making it watchable. She carried the entire film on her shoulders and did a phenomenal job as a woman who is stressed about her sister's children. His expressions were on point and his acting during the climactic scenes was applaudable. Her transformation during this episode is mesmerizing and Anupama is seen in almost every frame of the film.
The middle parts get interesting when the kids go missing and a few later scenes are interesting. The background was very nice, enhancing the impact of several sequences. The climactic parts are good, there are some intense scenes and the little twists at the end are nicely thought out.
There is a good message that the creators are trying to communicate, which is about the hardships and atrocities faced by women. Although seen briefly, Bhumika's character makes this relevant point in the beginning, which makes sense.
Negative points:
The biggest drawback is the film's screenplay, which lacks any punch or excitement. In the past, there have been a number of movies that deal with the concept of child abduction and so a bit of innovation was needed to make the movie interesting. But Butterfly is just another regular thriller that doesn't offer anything new.
After a few pleasant moments, the film slides back down and gets stuck on a loop. The story does not move forward and there are too many repetitive scenes which bore the viewers. The film is beaten around the bush, it just increases the length.
It is not really difficult to guess who the kidnapper is and therefore more focus was required in this segment. The character introduction is not done well and a great artist like Rao Ramesh has nothing to do in the film. Bhumika's role is also limited in the second hour. Another drawback was that the songs kept coming.
Technical Aspects:
The production values were tidy and the producers spent what was required. Arviz and Gideon Kattan's background score, as mentioned earlier, was impressive. Sameer Reddy's cinematography was fair. However, the editing team had to reduce the redundancy by cutting out several retakes.
As far as director Ganta Satish Babu is concerned, he has done a subpar job with the film. The screenplay is bland and the film has some very tedious moments. The story should have been full of more interesting scenes and the length of the movie could have been shorter to make it better.
Verdict:
All in all, Butterfly is an average crime thriller watchable only for Anupama Parameswara's performance. Apart from Anupama and a few good moments, there is nothing spectacular about the film and it just ends up being a good watch this weekend.
