Don't Pick Up The Phone Netflix Latest Series Season 1 Review

Series Season 1 Review

Netflix's True Crime documentaries are getting a lot of attention online thanks to the streaming network's global popularity. With the release of a new documentary called Don't Pick Up the Phone, the world is shocked by how a simple phone call led to the violence and assault of a number of women in the United States.

We've all heard of scam calls and probably tried calling someone you just know. However, Don't Pick Up The Phone isn't just any fake call, it's one that will send shivers down your spine. The show follows the investigation of a prank call that led to the  assault of an 18-year-old McDonald's employee.

It's appalling that the culprit hasn't been called after ten years, and it's even more infuriating how he was acquitted due to lack of evidence. This shows that these fast-food giants really do not care about the safety of their female employees.

It also shows that the victims were worried that their pleas would not be heard because the perpetrator was a policeman. The three-part documentary tells the story of a offender who poses as a police officer and accuses female fast-food workers of stealing.

Because he called from a phone booth, this man often watched from afar as he instructed people to harass these female employees. Even worse, this man assaulted women by pretending to be a police officer. The plot of the series sounds really absurd because the MO of the crime is so confusing.

Over the course of three episodes, viewers are shown how this man commits a crime and focuses on McDonald's workers, as the fast-food giant has neglected the safety of its workers for decades. The show doesn't have any gory scenes, but it can certainly trigger  assault victims.

The attack started over the phone, when the man called restaurants and accused the women of stealing without knowing their identity. He gave them a stereotypical image of a short, white woman with blonde hair and instructed the restaurant managers to undress while watching the women.

I can't understand what the victims go through when they are forced to do something like this, but how he can get away with it is shocking. The show is a fairly quick watch, like most of these Netflix documentaries, but it's very anti-climactic about how it was released due to a lack of evidence.

The two women who sued McDonald's were the only women to win justice, and the fast food giant was forced to pay back the women for how the corporation mishandled the case. However, Don't Pick Up The Phone will leave you feeling incomplete as to how it will end as justice is not served.
